macroscopy:
Basidiocarps pleurotoid with eccentric, rarely central stipe. Pileus 3-17 x 2-10 mm, when seen from above rounded flabelliform to reniform, irregularly lobed with age, in side-view applanate, at first with deflexed, later with straight margin, slightly hygrophanous, but not translucently striate, rusty brown or brown (Mu. 5 YR 5/6, 7.5 YR 6/4) and paler at margin (7.5 YR 6/6 or paler), pale brown on drying, leathery, hairy-tomentose when young and glabrous with age. Lamellae, L = 16-30, l = 1-7, rather crowded, emarginate and narrowly adnate, rather narrow, not ventricose, brown and more or less concolorous with pileus (7.5 YR 5/4) with even, concolorous to white edge. Stipe short, up to 4 x 1 mm, cylindrical, brown and concolorous with or darker than pileus, with whitish fibrils, glabrescent with age. Context tough, concolorous with pileus. Smell like radish or not distinct. Taste not known. Spore print dark brown.
microscopy:
Spores 6.0-8.0(-8.5) x (3.5-)4.0-5.0 x 4.0-5.0(-5.5) µm, in side-view Q = 1.35-1.8(-1.9), Qav = 1.45-1.65, ellipsoid to slightly phaseoliform or amygdaliform in frontal view, Q = 1.35-1.7, Qav = 1.5-1.55, ellipsoid to ovoid, thick-walled, pale yellow-brown in ammonia, with germ pore and hardly visible hilar appendage. Basidia 13-24 x 4.0-6.5 µm, 4-spored. Lamella edge sterile. Cheilocystidia 15-36 x 3.0-7.0 µm, lageniform, narrowly lageniform or cylindrical, with 1.5-3.0 µm wide neck, hyaline. Pleurocystidia not observed. Pileipellis an irregular up to 20 µm thick layer, made up of 3.0-6.0 µm wide cylindrical, irregular, and irregularly branched hyphae with coarsely incrusting and intracellular yellow-brown pigment.
ecology:
In clusters on trunks and stumps of deciduous trees; also known from various anthropogenic substrates like door-mats, old newspapers, yeans, mattress coverings, etc. Sept.-Jan.
distribution:
Wide-spread all over Europe
