Habit Omphaioid. Pileus brown to dark brown, translucently striate or not, finely squamulose, at least at centre; pileipellis a cutis with transitions to a trichoderm, made up of large, inflated terminal elements, up to 30 µm wide with intracellular pigment; in deeper layers of pileipellis often also finely incrusting. Clamps present. Only one section in Europe: Omphaliopsis.

Species: E. incarnatofuscenscens (Britz.) Noordel. with var. incarnatofuscescens and var. cystidiatum Noordel. & Hauskn.; E. amygdalinum Noordel.; E. parkensis (Fr.) Noordel.; E. brunneostanneum Courtecuisse.
