Clitopilus is the smallest genus in the Entolomataceae, characterized by
spores which have longitudial ribs in microscopic slides, appearing angular in polar view. They are pink to pinkish brown in deposit. The genus falls apart in two groups: one with a more or less clitocyboid habit with central stipe and decurrent lamellae, and the other group with often small pleurotoid basidiocarps with lateral and reduced stipe, often growing in clusters on all kinds of organic litter. In the near future this page will offer more information on the genus, with identification tools and coloured slides. |
